What to expect

1- Social distancing

We have restricted our visitor capacity to help us ensure you can maintain social distancing around the site. This may mean you will need to queue in certain areas, particularly in our admissions area. Please bear with us and following the guidance from our team.

2- Face coverings

Wearing of face masks is mandatory in the shop and will also be mandatory in the museum from Saturday 8th August 2020.

3- Exhibitions and buildings

You will be able to experience most of our exhibitions, but the Doctor’s dispensary and the Creation Station are temporarily closed for your safety. We have removed some textile based interactives but you are welcome to use the interactives on display; please use the hand sanitiser provided to clean your hands after use.

4- Food to go

The Firebox Café is open for both sit in or takeaway refreshments.

It has both inside and outside seating available. Inside capacity is reduced to ensure social distancing can be maintained and numbers are restricted to 3 people per table. There is a large outside seating area but in line with current restrictions the café is not permitted to accommodate groups larger than 6 either inside or outside. One person from each party is asked to place the order at the counter.

We request that people use the hand santizer provided prior to entering the café and provide details of a lead person for your party for Track and Trace.

Bike Hire, Sales and repair at Stage1Cycles are unaffected. Drop in is possible but we strongly recommend booking for servicing, repairs and hire.

5- Shopping

You will walk through the shop as you enter. Numbers in this area are very limited so this will be your only opportunity to buy a memento of your visit. We ask that you do not touch any products unless you intend to buy.

Alternatively, you can browse and buy through our online shop, and our staff will have your purchases ready for collection on the day you visit.

6- Our team

Our people are delighted to be back and look forward to welcoming you onsite and will be available to answer any questions you might have.

We have introduced hygiene measures for our team when talking with you. Some of our team may also wear face coverings if they wish to do so.

We ask that you try and maintain social distancing with our team as much as possible when engaging with them, thank you.

7- Bring your own

Consider bringing:

  • A picnic blanket to enjoy our outdoor space
  • Water
  • Your own hand sanitiser
