Green Spaces Shared Places
We’re excited to share the news that we are taking part in Going Places, a landmark five-year programme with Art Fund that will enable collaborative touring exhibitions!
The museum is working with three other museums across the UK, including Sunderland Museum & Winter Gardens, exploring the theme of Green Spaces Shared Places, and sharing its collections to create touring exhibitions during 2025-2030. Stay tuned for more information, we can’t wait to tell you more about it!
Going Places is an Art Fund programme made possible with major support from The National Lottery Heritage Fund and The Julia Rausing Trust, with additional support
from a generous group of trusts, foundations and individuals.

Cherish
From January 2026, Hester Cox and Sally Zaranko will be working on a new project called Cherish. This will culminate in a joint exhibition here at the Dales Countryside Museum in the summer of 2027.
Using their own experience of the landscape, archival material from the museum and the Nature Recovery Plan for the Yorkshire Dales National Park (YDNPA), the project will celebrate the diverse species that exist across the YDNP thanks to its varied and distinctive landscape.

Daughters of the Dales
Uncovering stories of women in rural life, past and present
The project is an opportunity for us to explore and build more in-depth knowledge our collections and those held in other organisations across the country. We will be working with socially engaged creative artist, Jo Coates, to carry out research and community consultation, share collections and facilitate conversations about the lives of women living in rural areas, today and in the past.
Together, we will explore the theme of women in rural life through collections held in larger regional services and national museum and galleries. The team will be able to consult with registrars and forge new links with a view to borrowing material in the future. This will be another step towards our ambition to feature loans within its temporary exhibitions.
